Logobama, Week 36 – Special Post-Election Edition

November 4th has come and gone. As we said the other day, what started as an online experiment has resulted in the election of Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States. Was Logobama.com responsible for this? No, not by itself. But as a part of the wider Obama grassroots network, yes, it did play a part, no matter how small. It raised over $1,700 for the Obama campaign, and engaged over 33,000 people to create their own Logobama. Logobama.com created a platform for people to personalize and show their support, and this personal voice was then leveraged across social networks like Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr (we’ll look at those stats below).

The strength of the digital application was in enabling people to be creators, not simply consumers. It allowed people to speak instead of just listen (and plenty of people were speaking, both pro-Obama and anti-Obama). And finally, it allowed people to use their creations across a wide variety of online communication vehicles. Logobama.com is really a microcosm of what the internet is becoming: a way for people to participate in the conversation. Which, coincidentally, is what we recommend for our clients.

Now that the election has past, we’re counting down the days until January 20, 2009 – Inauguration Day. But as far as weekly Logobama updates, much like John McCain’s campaign during the financial crisis, we’re suspending the recaps unless something spectacular happens. So this will be the final recap for the next few weeks. But don’t worry, we’ve added extra charts, graphs and stats to end this 36-week trend with as much Logobama.com information as you might want. The most obvious trends across all the data was that numbers were going up towards the end. There were some periods during the teens and early twenties where the data hit the valley. But week over week for the last eight weeks, numbers kept going up. What does this mean? That a grassroots explosion takes time to build, that it doesn’t happen immediately, and by nurturing the network and helping it grow you’re planting the seeds for a thousand flowers to bloom.
