Life at the Summit - A Substance Summit Recap

Wow. What a great start to this idea. Thank you to everyone who make it, and we hope the rest of you who couldn’t make it this time will be at the next.

I know I rely upon the advice the Brothers Chaps had for success, which was, “have no plan and low expectations,” but I will count this as big success for everyone involved. We started the conversation, met some incredible people, and came away with new ideas. I feel that everyone I talked to came away with at least three new ideas about what to do next either professionally, personally or creatively, and that’s more than I could have asked for.

Feedback:

“More structure and starting out with a topic or three” was the most common feedback we heard. Yes. We hear you, we agree, and will be reaching out to many of you to help us make that happen.

“A quieter location more conducive to larger discussions.” Agreed. This came together very quickly (see “no plan…” above), but we wouldn’t be able to make the second better without the first. So… ideas for the second location should be left in the comments.

Highlights:

It was great to have some of the local AIGA leadership come out and meet with us and share their perspectives. Anyone who missed the Summit should definitely consider making the next dMob event on July 17th. Anytime we can get more creative people together the better. Go. You will have fun.

Thanks to Steve Gehlen of the Internet Strategy Forum, Inverge, Cre8Camp, and the soon to be reborn Portland Creative Conference (man, he’s a busy dude). We hope to see a lot of you at the Cre8Camp later this month. I think it will be a good one.

Although I met many great people at the Summit, my personal highlight was talking to Tom Bennett of The New Group about social entrepreneurism. Let’s keep that conversation going.

What’s next?

You tell us. Add your comment and tell us what worked, what didn’t and what would make you come next time. Or, send a tweet to “@substance” or tagged with “#ss” with your ideas.

Thanks again for coming and we’ll see you at the next Summit, if not before.

Thanks for the props David! It was a great pleasure sharing with you. I am excited about the prospect of bringing more of the Portland design community into the Social Entrepreneurship bubble.. Together we can do great things.

Sorry I missed it! It’s hard for me to get out of work early like that. Hoping some are after work so I can participate.

Thanks for the dMob plug. :) This month we’re going ‘dLux’ and having a catered picnic at Mt.Tabor. It should be a blast. RSVPs requested (for food headcount). All the deets you need are here:
