On Wednesday, November 7th, the Substance crew and friends headed to the Portland Armory to join in the PAF Rosey Awards celebration. What are the Rosey Awards? It’s only one of the most competitive regional advertising competitions in the country. This year’s winners included local/international advertising powerhouse Wieden+Kennedy, the design stylings of Sandstrom Design, our friends at Leopold Ketel & Partners, and a slew of other agencies in town – for example, the digital brand and design smart-asses at Substance.

We started with some dinner at Piazza Italia… good stuff. Above, from left: Todd, Jessie and David enjoy some Italian beers and something off to the right… and here’s what was left of my meal.

Then, on to the streetcar up to the Gerding Theater.

Above: DLR (right) explains how streetcars work to Ethan. Below: Jessie and Shaun hang on for dear life.

Upon arriving at the Theater, we had a drink, and were then ushered into the theater proper.

David found something very entertaining… apparently the guy behind him (who had a decent amount to drink) face-planted into the backs of the chairs. This may be the reason why…

(Found on one of the urinals in the men’s room. As an aside, the sound of a digital camera in a public restroom garners interesting responses from other patrons using the facilities…)

The after-party was a good time, and provided the opportunity to catch up with some old friends, and make some new friends. Thanks to 52 Ltd. for putting on another great Rosey after-party.
But in the end, the real reason we were celebrating was this:
Our work on the Portland Trail Blazers “Oden or Durant” microsite earned a Rosey Merit. Congratulations to all involved here at Substance, and to Dan, our friend and colleague over at the Trail Blazers. Coincidentally, the Trail Blazers won their first game of the season last night as well, so apparently they’re on a roll. With some new projects in the works for the Trail Blazers, along with some of the other things we’ve been up to, we’re looking forward to the 2008 Rosey season. But that’s a long way away… for now, we’ll take it one day at a time. And keep doing what we believe.

Congrats guys! Looks like a good time and well deserved recognition.

Congratulations. Keep on believing; the world is a better because of it.
