Curious about the latest and greatest web mashups around? Substance friends Shaun Tinney and Cory Duncan have put together mashupawards.com, awarding one lucky mashup site a day.

What’s a mashup? I believe the term came from the music industry, where a DJ would lay part of one song over another song.

So web mashups are taking 2 or more “sites” and mashing them together. Really, it’s taking the APIs (application programming interface) and mashing them together. Like Twittervision, a mashup using Twitter and Google Maps.
