    Bridges.

In Portland, there’s really only one realistic option for getting over the river: taking a bridge. Sure, the bridge photo is just a cheap metaphor to intro this post, but after coffee last Friday, I biked across the Hawthorne Bridge and took a couple photos I thought looked cool, and wanted to use one of them somewhere. Like here. So… bridges.…

May the best looking candidate win.

Our friends Shaun, Jessie and Cory have put together logovoting.com, a way for you to voice your political leaning based on the logos of presidential candidates. Vote for your favorite candidate or logo… maybe they’ll be the same thing? www.logovoting.com

    FlashBelted

Finally back from FlashBelt. I’ve got plenty of work waiting for me, so I’ll jump right into the highlights: Big thanks to Dave at Pilotvibe. Not only is he one of the genuine nice guys and a great sound designer, he puts on one hell of a conference. I plan on going back next year and hope that you can make…

Random Videos and the YouTube Effect.

According to a recent report by ARS Technica, 36% of all HTTP traffic (that’s like viewing web pages) is made up of streaming video. This compares to 45% of HTTP traffic that’s pulling text and images. (Not sure where Flash falls in these percentages, or where video in Flash falls…) From these percentages, YouTube is now handling 20% of ALL…

    Mend my broken heart.

“Love is about action. It’s about creating a meaningful relationship. It’s a constant process of keeping in touch, working with consumers, understanding them, spending time with them. And this is what insightful marketers, empathetic designers, and smart people on the checkout and production line do every day.” – Kevin Roberts, Lovemarks (p. 74) As I said in a previous post, I’m…

We’re getting together for coffee at the Stumptown Ace (1022 SW Stark), 1 1/2th floor. Friday, June 22nd, 8:30am. I’ve also included a map for James so he doesn’t get lost…

    Want to change the world?

Substance is looking for someone who wants to change the world. You’ve probably worked at other great places before. You’ve used Flash on a regular basis, created beautiful, meaningful designs, and maybe even used After Effects for some motion stuff. But you’re not happy with where the digital landscape is… you see where it is going and want to lead instead…

    Fathers and Sons

“The essential difference between emotion and reason is that emotion leads to action while reason leads to conclusions.” - Donald Calne, neurologist (from “Lovemarks,” p. 42) I’m reading “Lovemarks” by Kevin Roberts. Kevin is the CEO Worldwide of Saatchi & Saatchi (or at least was when the book came out). The book talks about the importance of emotion in creating relationships, and…

    Coffee with Likemind / June 15 / 8am / Stumptown (128 SW 3rd)

Quick reminder that June 15th (that’s tomorrow – Friday) is coffee with Likemind. 8am at the Stumptown at 128 SW 3rd. Anomaly buys the coffee, so what better reason do you need? I imagine the group will be in the back on the couches… come on back, introduce yourself, grab a Likemind nametag, then go get your coffee. See you there.

    Oden or Durant?

Okay, there’s a reason we’re a bit more focused on the Oden or Durant draft pick for the Trail Blazers than we normally might be. About 3 weeks ago, our friend Dan Harbison contacted us and wanted to know if we wanted to help with a project, due as soon as possible, and it had to be “bad-ass.” How could…
