I’m not sure what “Digital Media Grow Up in the City” means exactly… but I do know David is quoted in the article. I only heard his end of the conversation with the journalist, so I know he said a lot of other things besides the quote used.
The article talks about how small studios are thriving in Portland because of focus and emerging technologies. At Substance, we’re finding that what we do (digital brand strategy, concept and implementation) has become increasingly important for clients and advertising agencies around the world. We focus on how to take “brand” and create interactive experiences (which is really what brands are anyway… relationships between companies and people). Technology allows for two-way conversations, but technology is merely the tool, not the message. Companies are realizing their brand isn’t necessarily how they present themselves, but what people are saying about them through blogs, YouTube, etc… “word-of-mouth” is reaching growing audiences online. The brands that are succeeding are those listening to people and facilitating the conversation.
Call or email David at “info (at) findsubstance (dot) com” to hear more of his side of the interview and what it means to be a passionate, focused studio in the business of creating relationships between people and companies. I think the phone call is $3 for the first minute and $.99 for each additional minute.
