We’ve been doing this coffee thing for a few months now, but I realize there might be questions about what goes on. So, to follow up from what Kansas City has written, here’s a rundown of what coffee morning is like in Portland.
8:30am? Really?
Some of us have jobs we have to get to. Some of us don’t. So we start at 8:30am and people come or go as they please. Usually the last people leave by 10:30am.
What do we talk about?
Anything you like. We’ve talked about everything from the iPhone to Those Darn Accordions to working at Best Buy. And plenty of other stuff.
Is drinking coffee required?
Personally, I’d say yes, but I’m a big fan of coffee. So use your own judgement. Drink it if you like it. Drink something else if you like something else.
Do I have to talk or come prepared with a topic?
No and no. You can learn tons from simply listening. Plus, there’s that quote, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” (I tend to fall into the second part.) If you have something you want to discuss, bring it. But the group may want to talk about something else.
Where is it this week?
I was going to say Tiny’s again on NE MLK, but I’m open to suggestions. Criteria for a location are: great coffee, a space for 6 – 10 people to sit comfortably, and centrally located. If the popular vote doesn’t throw out suggestions, we’ll keep it at Tiny’s. We’ve had it at Stumptown on SW 3rd in the past, but sometimes it’s hard to find enough seats.
What if I don’t live near Portland, Oregon?
There are coffee mornings all around the world.

Bucharest
Chicago

If I’ve missed any, there are links in the sidebar on Russell Davies’ blog.
So, find someplace close by, grab a mug of your favorite beverage, meet some interesting people and have a great time.
